FAQ's What is the Eastern Solid Paint Bred Council?
The Eastern Solid Paint Bred Council, or the ESPBC, is hopefully going to be a group of people that could get together and fill the Solid Paint Bred Classes at the APHA approved shows. We are hoping to eventually either become a club or branch off of an existing club and show people that these horses are just as good. When we get enough people interested, we are hoping to keep points and award people for the points that they accumulate within the APHA.
What is a Solid Paint Bred Horse?
Solid colored offspring of two registered Paint parents, called "Solid Paint-Breds" or "Breeding Stock Paints," are also eligible for registration, with certain restrictions. They are able to participate in some recognized Paint breed shows, and there are alternative programs offered, and many incentive programs within the registry are available to Solid Paint-bred horses. If a solid-colored horse is bred to a regular registry Paint horse, it is possible to produce a spotted foal. In some cases, such as the recessive Sabino patterns, described below, even a solid colored horse may still carry genes for color. However, in the case of the dominant Tobiano pattern, a Breeding Stock Paint will not carry these color genes, though it may retain other desirable traits. The APHA has established the Breeding Stock registry for those horses who meet all bloodline requirements but lack sufficient white hair with underlying, unpigmented skin to be included in the Regular Registry. The Breeding Stock registry was developed so as not to lose the potential offspring of horses eligible by blood to be Paint Horses but how lack the Paint coloring. Horses registered in the Breeding Stock registry can be shown at APHA approved shows in separate Breeding Stock classes and earn points toward their Register Of Merit (ROM), Superiors, and Championships. All registered Paints, Regular or Breeding Stock can compete in the Outside Competitive Activities Programs (OCAP). What classes is my horse eligible for or what classes are available?
Pretty much all of the classes that APHA offered for Regular Registry horse, has a Solid Paint Bred division that mimics it. Solid Paint-bred classes offer solid horses a chance to earn national points, attract new exhibitors to the Paint industry, and provide additional opportunities for breeders and trainers. To encourage participation, all APHA-approved shows are required to offer at least 8 classes for solid Paint-bred horses.
For a list of classes that the APHA offers, check out the Solid Paint Bred page on the APHA.com website.
If I start showing my horse, are there any titles that my horse can get?
As a matter of fact, there are. You can compete for just about the same titles as a Regular Registry Paint Horse can. You are eligible for tittles such as, but no limited to, Register of Merit (ROM) Award 's, Champion Awards, Top 10's, and Zone Top Five 's. You can also go all the way up the ranks to compete at the World Show level if you choose. For a complete list of what titles you can achieve, visit the Solid Paint Bred portion of the APHA.com website and scroll down to the bottom.
I don't have fancy equipment, so I can't compete with these big time trainers.
Nonsense. As long as your equipment follows with the APHA rules, a judge has to judge you. No where in the rule book does it say that you need a flashy saddle or a new outfit. Shows are ment for you to have fun, not compete in a beauty pageant. As long as you and your horse are both well groomed, you won't have a problem.
How do I get started? You can get started by joining the APHA, if you aren’t already a member. If your horse is registered, your already started, but if not, you will need to do that if you know the horse’s parents. The next thing is to get the card for your division, for example, Novice Youth/ Youth or Amateur. Other than that, take your horse to shows and have fun. I would recommend reading the rules beforehand to make sure that you are following the guidelines set by the association. The rulebook for 2009 can be found here: (http://www.apha.com/forms/PDFFiles/rulebooks/2009RuleBook.pdf) Does the Eastern Solid Paint Bred Council require any fees or membership? None at all. It is doubtful that we will ever charge anything for membership until we get enough people interested and become established enough to start offering awards at the end of the year. Right now, we are just a group of people getting together to fill the Solid Breeding Stock Classes. When are the shows? There are several shows available throughout the year that are APHA approved. For a semi-complete list, you can view the shows portion of our site. (http://easternsolidpaintbred.webs.com/Upcoming%20Shows.htm) More FAQ's coming soon! | |
